NO idling! Focus for February

The Green team's focus for February is No idling!

What is idling? Idling is keeping the car running when you are not moving and people may be sitting inside.

Why do people idle?

According to the Green Communities fact sheet "No idling at School" key reasons people report idling the car include:
- warms up the car's engine
- less harmful than turning the engine on and off all of the time
- listening to the radio
- waiting for someone
- parking illegally (and waiting for someone to come)
- convenient

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction!

What are some of the harms of idling?

- wastes fuel
- wasted money (reported that $1.8 million of fuel idled by Canadians every DAY)
- pollution (reduces air quality AND contributes to global climate change)
- harmful to the engine
